Johnston Genealogy

Our Johnston family has been a hard one to trace. We know that Joseph Johnston, b. 18 Feb. 1784, VA; m. Rebecca Bryan in 1805, Clark County, KY. Rebecca was b. April 8, 1790, Clark County, KY. Joseph's father was Robert Johnston and his mother was Catherine Wallace. To date we have not been able to find any information on either Robert or Catherine, nor any other children they might have had.

Our Joseph Johnston d. March 12, 1850, Jackson Twp., St. Clair County, MO. Rebecca d. April 5, 1875, Jackson Twp., St. Clair County, MO. They had thirteen children:

(1). Robert Johnston b. Sept. 19, 1807; d. Feb. 27, 1849 possibly in TX; m. Hannah Bryan Aug. 1827.

(2). Andrew Johnston b. Dec. 11, 1809; d. March 15, 1827.

(3). Elizabeth Johnston b. Dec. 19, 1811, MO; m. Hardin Wright July 1827. They had six children.

(4). Katharine Johnston b. July 25, 1813; d. before 1850; m. Gilford (Tilford) Taylor March 20, 1833.

(5). Bryan Johnston b. Feb. 21, 1816; m. Delilah Reed.

(6). Sophia Jane Johnston b. Feb. 24, 1818, St. Charles District, Territory of Missouri; d. Nov. 1909, Monegau Springs, St. Clair County, MO; m. William R. Duckworth Dec. 3, 1840, Warren County, MO. They had nine children.

(7). Cynthia Ann Johnston b. Aug. 18, 1819, MO; d. 1862, MO; m. James Harvey White Dec. 8, 1837, Warren County, MO.

(8). John W. Johnston b. Oct. 30, 1822, Marthasville, Warren County, MO; d. Oct. 10, 1907, Barton County, MO; m. (1) Catherine M. Smith Dec. 16, 1852-53; They had four children; m. (2) Elizabeth J. Hall Oct. 30, 1865; They had three children.

(9). Mary Sparks Johnston b. Mar. 7, 1826; m. D. Bill McDonald April 5, 1847.

(10). James Riley Johnston b. Oct. 2, 1827, Warren County, MO; d. Jan. 11, 1880, Jackson Twp., St. Clair County, MO; m. Harriet Gist Sept. 25, 1856. They had eight children.

(11). William Wallace Johnston b. Feb. 8, 1830.

(12). Hariet Newel Johnston b. Dec. 26, 1833; d. Nov. 16, 1836.

(13). Thirza Emaline Johnston b. April 16, 1836; m. (1) Thomas Green Sept. 27, 1855; They had one child; m. (2) Giles Harris; They had one child.
