How can a loving God send people to hell?

Behind that question is the idea that most people don't really deserve to go to hell. And it does seem that way at first. Many people who seem nice, decent, and good on the outside will go to hell.

But God looks at the heart. He sees the evil there that we often learn to hide from other people. Here is why God says the people who will go to hell deserve such a terrible punishment.

• They have disobeyed His laws.
• Instead of worshipping Him they have worshipped other "gods" (such as money, popularity, pleasure, nature, and other people).
• They have not given Him fitting gratitude for His acts of kindness toward them.
• They have harmed other people in their quest to satisfy themselves.
