Other people say
there are other ways to be on good terms with God. How do I know
they're wrong and you're right?
You must evaluate a religion based on its teaching and not just on the character of its teachers. There are some very nice people out there (like Mormons) who believe very wrong things. (There are also some very mean people out there who believe very wrong things, but I trust you have sense enough to stay away from them!)
There are several things that set Christianity apart from other religions.
1. We believe that man is not
basically good.
Other
religions teach that man is basically good, and just needs to tap
into his goodness.
2. We believe that it is
impossible for men to be good enough to get to heaven.
Other
religions teach that heaven can be reached by a strict adherence
to certain rules.
3. We believe in the "deity of Christ." That means we believe Jesus is God, not just a really good man.
4. We believe in a literal hell where the souls of those who reject Jesus will be in torment for ever and ever. Some people teach that when you die you are reincarnated back onto the earth. Others teach that you simply cease to exist.
5. Our Founder is still alive.
Buddha,
Confucius, and Mohammed are dead and can't help anyone now.
6. We believe that there is only one way to God: Jesus Christ.
Enter in at the narrow gate: for the gate is wide and the way is broad that lead to destruction, and many people go in there: Because the gate is narrow and the way is narrow, which lead unto life, and only a few find it.
